Overview

Cluster is a campus app that helps students find clubs they would never stumble on. My first full design project: five weeks, Figma taught to myself from zero, a team of three.

Problem

More than 800 clubs, and no way to find them.

UC Davis is home to more than 800 student clubs, but the ones that are not already big are invisible unless you catch the once-a-year club fair. Every transfer I talked to that quarter said the same thing: no idea how many existed, or how to find the niche ones.

The Discover feed.
The finished app.

A home where every club can be found. Cluster gives every club a place to show up. The Discover feed is catered to your interests, and Sports, Dance and Design each get their own when you would rather browse by mood. A club profile gathers its articles and events in one place, so you feel what being a member is like.

Outcome

Most Innovative, and the reason design stuck.

Our team won Most Innovative. From 2026 there is plenty I would change: cut the messaging, tighten the spacing and type, and lean on the kind of design system Cluster never had.

Cluster never shipped, but it is the reason I went all in on design, and that drive runs straight through Bearings, Apollo, and Strata.
